And those points are still true today as it was then...
To be more abstract, is the only way to get a common API. Windows just
doesn't do fork() or pseudo-terminals, Unix doesn't do registries,
etc. The success of lfs and luasocket is that they have achieved the
right level of abstraction in their domains. But the rest requires
some thinking, although we have apparently been thinking for 3 years
;)
