Why does Xavante use Rings now instead of VEnv?

I'm wondering why Xavante now uses Rings instead of VEnv.  The reason 
obviously isn't security, since the "remotedostring" function is 
available within the slave state.  What advantages, then, does Rings 
have over VEnv?
