The really strange thing about this idiot mistake I made is that I made it
twice!  The listed program was written to just illustrate the problem
itself.  The real program code doesn't look like this at all... but it has
the same idiot bug.  This demonstrates the simple fact that if you overlook
something like this once, you are very unlikely to find it on subsequent
reviews.
