We are usually more interested by the goal (to concatenate strings) than by the mean to reach it (the chosen algorithm), as long as it works (of course, it is better if is efficient).

Note that the standard signature separator is two dashes followed by a space. Good e-mail clients like Thunderbird recognize this standard separator, display the signature in gray and omit it when replying...
