You're correct, of course. I even googled before sending my reply, but
presumably ended up at some non-standard compiler's help text :(

A first letter of I, J, K, L, M, or N implies type integer and any other
letter implies type real, unless an IMPLICIT statement (8.5) is used to
change the default implied type.
