You can add a site: prefix to google search string to restrict search to a website. Example:
site:http://lua-users.org/lists/lua-l/ "watchdog for lua"

I don't know whether it's the best but the official one is

as pointed to in "search archive" in

That page also lists other lua-l archives at t Conectiva, MARC, and Gmane.
