How to "reset" the Lua environment?

How to "reset" the Lua environment?

I mean, how to clean the references to all functions
and variables?

I want that, if I run two scripts, the second script
don't have access to the functions/variables created
on the first one. The previous environment must be
"clean".

I wouldn't like to close the Lua instance and create a
new one (and registering all libraries!) each time the
