Just to add more spam (it's quite fun so see so much activity!),
"<>" is really only clear for things with a natural ordering,
such as numbers and (some) strings, and doesn't really make sense
as a general inequality.  To say for example that a function
reference is 'less than or greater than' another one isn't
too straightforward. :)
