Before Lua, there was Sol (sun in Portuguese) which was an acronym (for Simple Object Language). The language matured and needed a new name: Lua as a counterpar of
Sol.

Which then gives us an interesting 'circle' of history, as there is the 'Sol' language which is a modification of Lua, and an acronym for 'Son of Lua'...
