Sounds like an interesting endeavour.
You may find it useful to refer to http://aranha.pepperfish.net/ where
you can find a tarball of Aranha -- a web application platform written
using Lua 5.0, sporting a FastCGI interface to most modern web-servers
and a binding to libdbi -- a generic database interface for talking to
different SQL database servers.
It would be interesting to see if your project can collaborate with the
Aranha project on any of these points. Best not to waste effort if we
don't need to, eh?
