No, it did not appear so.
We sometimes change to code so that it will compile in older compilers,
if the change is simple and we still end up with simple, ANSI C code.
Unfortunately, in this case, removing NUM_OPCODES might obscure future bugs,
and so we are not going to make the change you did.
