Ah, a Zap conoisseur (if it were StrongEd, you wouldn't be having to
consider it). You have my fullest sympathies.
Actually, having been forced to use Windows for nearly a year now, I've
come to like Emacs (strange alchemy...), and am starting to use it under
Linux too. But I mostly use jed (for console mode simple stuff; however,
it's rich enough to make xjed an excellent poor man's emacs), and Nedit
(www.nedit.org)). NEdit was the only editor I found that was adequately
like Zap for my needs; critically, it's the only editor I can find under
Linux that has softwrap. It's also lightweight (except for using Motif),
has Windows-style shortcuts (I can also supply these for Jed), and a nice
little C-like macro language, plus configurable syntax highlighting (I've
done a simple Lua mode). I've been using it as my main editor for
intensive work on Linux for about 3 years. It's actually more like
StrongEd, but the main thing is that it has a good dose of RISC OS
philosophy in its design.
Er, sorry, that wasn't very much about Lua...
