clang 3.0 [-O2 -Wall -Wextra] doesn't complain at all -- and warning
about unused values from a function-like macro is pretty in C anyway
(as "optional" return values are a common idiom) -- so I'd just call
this an over-zealous warning (which has apparently been fixed in later
versions of clang).
